Gray Tweed Balloon-Leg Trousers
Our “balloon” trousers originally appeared at Poszetka as a loose, summer option… but their versatility is by no means limited to one season. The tweed version was Tomek’s personal idea; fortunately, it didn’t stop at a single piece – and now the design has joined the autumn–winter collection!
Their loose, rounded cut may look modern, but like many contemporary forms, it has very practical and deeply rooted origins – the “balloon” or “barrel leg” silhouette refers to Tobi trousers, which come from Japanese workwear. As with the entire Working Class series, we draw on such references not just for the sake of quoting them – but because they still work; they come from another kind of classic, yet remain classic all the same. It’s simply a modern form of trousers with a comfortable heritage.
The tweed we used to make them is a surprisingly soft and delicate fabric from Moon – woven from lambswool and combining two shades of gray in a classic herringbone pattern. The cut is loose, wide through the thighs and knees, and tapers toward the ankle – with a deep pleat and a stitched front crease adding to the comfort. In this form, the trousers pair perfectly with shorter casual jackets, winter sportcoats, or thick sweaters made of warm wools.
