Square Scarf ‘The Kiss’ Gustav Klimt
For this season, we are expanding our ‘Masterpieces’ square scarf collection with a couple of Art Nouveau and Art Deco artworks.
Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss (c. 1907/1908) is undoubtedly one of the most important artworks of the early 1900s, a masterpiece of the Vienna Secession movement. The painting depicts a couple embracing, their bodies entwined in elaborate robes decorated in a style influenced by the contemporary Art Nouveau and the organic forms of the earlier Arts and Crafts movement. The original oil painting is adorned with real gold leaf, enhancing its opulence in true fin de siècle fashion.
To best capture the artwork's colors, we have printed the design on pure silk from the Como region of Italy, showcasing the bright gold, bronze, green, and violet tones. As with all our square scarves, the edges are hand-rolled by our skilled craftswomen here in Katowice.
