Olive HBT Utility Shirt
The workwear-inspired collection under the Working Class name wouldn’t be complete without a garment that draws directly from military cuts of the past. In a sense, the utility shirt is the true overshirt - a garment that can be worn both as an alternative to a shirt or as a layer over it, ready to double as a piece of light outerwear.
We have made ours from Japanese olive HBT (herringbone twill), a faithful reproduction of sturdy cottons used by the American military in the 40s and the 50s, opting for the simple two-rectangular-pocket cut born in the same era. This style later evolved into the utility shirts of the Vietnam War era, which are arguably better known.
However, we did not go for a straightforward replica - we took our time and worked on balancing the proportions to fit modern wardrobes, changed a few details, and finished the garment with our “Everyday Classic” metal buttons. In the end, it is meant to be: workwear of the past, for the labour of today.
About fabric: The Working Class series is made from durable fabrics designed to withstand the test of time. Apart from the denim, these are all unwashed and untreated - they start tough but soften with each wear. Depending on how you treat them, they will develop a unique patina and wear pattern.
