Pocket Square 'Terrasse à Sainte-Adresse' Monet
"Terrasse à Sainte-Adresse” 1867, Claude Monet, 98 x 129,9 cm, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New Jork
The painting depicts members of the Monet family; the father and Aunt Lecadre, sitting with their backs turned, gazing at the sea, and standing next to the railing is their cousin Jeanne-Marguerite Lecadre, engaged in conversation with a young man wearing a top hat.
Claude sold this painting to his colleague Bazille, from whom it was bought back by the art dealer Durand-Ruel, who sold it in America in 1926. Since 1967, it has been in the possession of the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
