"In 1896, the painting was shown in Berlin, at the Internationale Kunstausstellung, and in Vienna, at the Sommersalon – there a critic from the Paris-based "Gazette des Beaux‑Arts" discovered it, William Ritter. One of the most famous and instantly recognisable paintings by Olga Boznańska, which has become the subject of many, often contradictory or controversial, interpretations. It shows the same fair-haired model as in several earlier works, yet here she seems slightly older.
