Ancient madder silk is a uniquely smooth silk type with a distinct muted finish. The print is pressed onto a previously dyed and specially finished fabric, the effect being a slightly smoky colour palette with a prevalence of mustard golds, burnt browns, blues and burgundies. All of the hue combinations are unique and hardly seen anywhere else.
The traditional way of dyeing the ancient madder silk was based upon using the dyes made from the roots of the plant called Rubia Tinctoria. The professionaly prepared raw silk is first treated to remove the first organic coating, in order to reveal a more delicate and smoother layer. The finishing of the fabric used in our ties from one of the most traditional english mills, is as genuine as it was in the times when the fabric was conceived.
Ancient madder ties are popular among the halls of english universities as a more prestigious alternative to the regimental club ties.
The product is hand sewn in Poland, with emphasis on the precision of hand finish. This piece was made by our seamstress Mrs. Jadzia.
One of the most important parts of the tie is it's interlining and the construction. The springy insides of our ties are made in Italy from cotton-wool fibers. In this particular tie, we've used two layered cotton-wool canvas.
