The Questionnaire: Suzan - Outfit Narrative
We have asked Suzan (@outfitnarrative) a few questions about his life, clothes and interests.
Intro
What do you do for a living?
S: I am working as a designer and brand development specialist helping businesses improve their branding, visuals and communications.
What sparked your interest in menswear?
S: In my mid-20s I started questioning who I really am and this led me to go through (too) many self-help and personal growth books that helped me develop my personality and overcome insecurities. It also made me decide I want to change the way I dress, so no logo or brand will ever define how anyone sees me. This also marked my slow transition to menswear. It started with plain t-shirts and jeans and then I slowly went down into a menswear rabbit hole. I developed admiration for the timeless style of how people dressed in 1940s-1970s period and I think this is what defined my personal style the most.
All About Menswear:
Describe your everyday attire. Do you have any kind of "menswear uniform” that you repeatedly wear?
S: I am a casual dresser. I don’t need to wear a suit or anything specific to work, so I wear what I feel the most comfortable in - white jeans, a shirt, usually a military overshirt and a scarf or bandana.
What's your single favorite piece of clothing in your wardrobe?
S: White jeans and Alden suede penny loafers.
Is there an item of clothing you would love to own but haven’t acquired yet?
S: Yes, I am still searching for a wool balmacaan overcoat that would fit me perfectly.
Who is your biggest style inspiration or a favorite style icon?
S: It would be impossible to state just one, but I would say people who impacted my style the most are the icons of the previous century - Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, James Dean, Cary Grant, Sean Connery - and from our times, without a doubt, Alessandro Squarzi.
Bigger Perspective:
What music album or playlist have you been listening to the most recently?
S: Jay Z is always on my playlists. I have a few playlists just for my training sessions and those are mostly about aggressive rap tracks. In general there is mostly rap and hip-hop in my library, but my recent more relaxed playlist includes songs from Adele, Mac Miller, The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Justin Timberlake, Lana Del Rey, Jessie Reyez… and a few more.
What's a destination you've yet to visit but would love to see?
S: Probably Japan, to see completely different culture and lifestyle with such a strong history and tradition. Also as a denim and repro enthusiast it seems like a must-visit to be able to see how all that comes to life!
Besides menswear, what are your other hobbies?
S: A lot of my free time is dedicated to training. I am serious about my weight training and I also do a lot of running. Other than that, I love to explore new restaurants and try new foods.
What's your favorite sport or activity?
S: My favorite sport is definitely football, but I haven’t played it for over 10 years now and recently I also stopped watching the games. There is not enough hours in a day to do everything I like, so I decided to focus on those that I can control and benefit from! Watching football on TV is the opposite of that, so I would rather go on a lunch run and clock 25km in a time that would take to watch one match… and add in weight training to stay fit, healthy and look and feel good.
A Little About Poszetka:
What do you appreciate the most about our brand?
S: Definitely your take on menswear. Very simple with top quality. Most of your clothing can be easily mixed and worn daily. And there is really amazing value for the price!
What would you recommend to our readers this season?
S: You know I will always recommend your scarves and new bandanas, together with the work shirts that are coming for spring/summer. Also, something I would recommend as year-round choices are cable knit sweaters, a denim western shirt, a corduroy chore coat, high waisted trousers and jeans. One can never go wrong with these timeless classics!
