Beige Sateen 'Westerner' Jacket
This kind of cut is inseparably associated with denim - and a version like that will sooner or later find its way into our WWCCC lineup as well, most probably!- but originally, such jackets were also made from other fabrics, better suited to the warmer months. The nickname “westerner” was often used for versions cut from cotton sateen, usually in lighter shades, which proved to be a practical and popular choice.
We reached for exactly such a fabric — woven in Japan — and used it to create a slightly more minimalist take on this American classic. It does away with additional pleats and simplifies the front, leaving two practical flap pockets. Their shape, along with the adjustable cuffs, subtly references the forms known from our chore coat, adding to the workwear-y vibe. The jacket is washed for the softer texture and broken-in feel.
The body is short — intended to sit around the waist, above the hips — and distinctly tapered, creating an inverted triangle silhouette. Originally, these proportions were meant to ensure comfort in the saddle or on a motorcycle… today, they make this jacket a perfect match for high-rise trousers and a great summer alternative to a classic denim jacket.
Traditionally, these jackets were not only short but also quite slim-fitting. If you’re after that sharper silhouette, consider sizing down. Our version is cut slightly more relaxed — and sized accordingly.
