Oiled Ripstop Showerproof Jacket

This design started with the fabric. While going through Japanese swatch books — somewhere between interesting denims and other casual cottons — we came across something special: an oiled cotton ripstop. It’s a water-resistant, rain-repellent fabric that’s noticeably lighter than the British waxed cotton you might know from brands like Barbour. Its texture draws from classic military fabrics, but in terms of practicality in wet weather, it goes a few steps further.

We had the perfect material for a spring — or even spring/summer — rain jacket. So we made one!

This is a piece that’s lightweight, easy to carry and quick to throw on when the weather turns. The cut is inspired by utilitarian classics — hunting jackets and barn jackets — with generous front pockets (including two perfectly placed for your hands), no lining (to avoid overheating in warm spring rain), a detachable hood fastened with snaps, and a corduroy collar for a subtle touch of texture.

It’s part of our more casual, workwear- and military-inspired Working Class line — but also a piece that fits easily into a wide range of styles. You can throw it over a blazer or even a suit, layer it with an overshirt or a chore coat, or wear it simply over a shirt or T-shirt when the temperature really starts to rise but the rain wouldn’t stop.
