Indigo Jacquard Corduroy Balloon-Leg Trousers

 These “balloon” trousers are the next chapter of our story about the fascination with one particular fabric that started with this jacket. This jacquard denim is one of the most intriguing fabrics we’ve ever worked with. It combines the qualities of corduroy, denim, and wool – a heavyweight cotton fabric woven from indigo-dyed and undyed yarns on jacquard looms, giving it a ribbed texture reminiscent of corduroy and the elasticity and resilience more typical of wool.

Their loose, rounded cut - wide through the thighs and knees, tapering toward the ankle, with a deep pleat and side adjusters - may look modern, but like many contemporary forms, has very practical and deeply rooted origins. The “balloon” or “barrel leg” silhouette refers to Tobi trousers, which come from Japanese workwear. As with the entire Working Class series, we draw on such references not just for the sake of quoting them – but because they still work; they come from another kind of classic, yet remain classic all the same. It’s simply a modern form with a comfortable heritage.

Such trousers pair perfectly with shorter casual jackets, some unusual sportcoats, or simple classics such as a T-shirt, a sweatshirt (perhaps our “vintage cut” ones), or a breezy shirt.
