Camel Moleskin Utility Vest

We could define this garment by starting with what it isn’t — because it’s neither a formal waistcoat, nor a puffer, nor a fishing vest. So what is it? A utility vest, certainly — but one designed with a more understated, everyday (Everyday Classic, even) approach in mind. We have simplified the form, while making it as useful and versatile as possible throughout the whole fall and winter season.

The fabric takes center stage here: a dense British moleskin cotton in a substantial weight works particularly well on windy days, as its tight weave provides effective insulation. This makes the vest useful not only as an extra middle layer, but also as the main outerwear on fall days. In this role, the pockets are particularly useful — we placed two roomy ones on the front, each covered by a flap and lined with an extra layer of fabric that extends to the sides, creating a convenient hand-warmer pocket. On the back, we added a double layer of fabric for extra insulation, while also creating additional space for small essentials, accessible from either side — much like the setup found on hunting jackets popular in both workwear and British Country styles.

The warm camel-beige shade works equally well with earthy colors and with the basic tones of cream, navy, and black. You can wear it under a sportcoat, a Barbour jacket, or one of our coats — or on its own, with a Shetland wool sweater or one of our heavier shirts.
