2019: A Year In Review
It's December, the year is coming to an end, time to sum it up. How was 2019 for Poszetka?
Moreover, it is not only the year that is coming to an end, but a whole decade. A decade for majority of which we have been operating - next year Poszetka will be 10 years old! It is quite a lot of time, but we must admit that probably 2019 brought us more changes than any year before - and mainly those for good.
First and foremost: for us this was the year of the biggest growth ever. Both regarding the amount of orders and the range of our products.
The debut of our first RTW collection undoubtedly helped both. Well, more than one - three (AW18/19, SS19, AW19/20), precisely. The introduction of suits and jackets to our offer is a breakthrough event for which we have been preparing for a long time, but eventually succeeded.
In practice it also meant another, big change for us - the separation of our brick and mortar store from the webshop warehouse. We rented a second place nearby - in the neighborhood, the same Koszutka district of Katowice - and since October we have separated these functions, improving both the order delivery time and stationary customer service. Although we knew that one day it was unevitable, we did not expect it to be so sudden!
And what more tangible results for our customers had the introduction of our first RTW collection?
For example, the fact that it was the first wedding season in the history of Poszetka, in which one could go out of our shop dressed up from head to toe! Once grooms came to us only for accessories, then there were waistcoats, shirts and suspenders... And finally we have ready-made and MTM suits available, which many of you have waited a long time for.
The idea of "total look", however, goes much further than just ceremonial attire - it is also constantly expanding our offer of shirts and knitwear (we close the year with a record number of available models) and quickly developing our offer of jackets and suits by introducing coats, pants and more casual options, like safari jackets.
Talking about safari jackers - we have to admit that their sale figures completely (in a positive way) surprised us. You ordered them so willingly that we almost immediately had to restock them and add the third variant, brown corduroy. All colors have become the definitive bestsellers of the last collection. In the upcoming season we will try to give you a lighter alternative to them...
The colors of 2019 for us were green and brown, what was reflected both in the collections and in your interest. Cloth of the year? In our opinion definitely corduroy. Although we were cautious about it, your reaction to safari jackets made of this fabric and an experimental flat cap convinced us completely!
We could go on and on talking about all the new things this year, but we will mention just the few more:
- - first series of new grenadine ties: woollen and shantung grenadine,
- - new model of our Button-Down collar, which quickly became your favourite,
- - establishing cooperation with the National Museum in Krakow and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, which resulted in new series of pocket squares with works of art,
- - our second model in cooperation with Crownhill Shoes: The Silesia,
- - leather notepads,
- - Sartolane bags and belts, available in-store.
... and non-product matters - most importantly the blog you are reading right now. We have long dreamed of a real Poszetka's blog where you could read valuable texts, not just look at photos and read some soulless information about our products. In 2019, we were able to finally implement this vision. We plan to develop it even further!
At this point, it is also worth mentioning our failures - this year, as usual, several of them happened, although, fortunately, none of them was too severe. A few products arrived far too late and did not appear on time, some did not look exactly as it should, some of the concepts we were not able to realize at all. However, the thing we treat as our biggest flap is the lack of sizes for tall men, what you often mention as an inconvenience. We took it seriously and the plan to fix this is high on our priority list!
Time for some interesting facts
In 2019, we noticed several sales trends that speak volumes about the current situation of the entire market.First of all, interest in bowties and ascots is clearly shrinking. Although the latter have always been niche, the change regarding bowties is drastic. After a few years of being in fashion, they again became a rare product, interesting only to enthusiasts. Strangely, the opposite is for ties - although in the media one can notice a widespread tendency to lose this accessory, among our customers the interest in it constantly growing. However, the wind of change is starting to blow for pocket squares. Interest in them is cooling down and will probably start to decline the next year. Some bold influencers and bloggers already predict them to go back to the avant-garde and again become an optional element of the outfit, instead of being a must-have for every elegant man. How do we, the brand which took the name from them (Poszetka means pocket square in Polish), perceive it? The popularity of limited edition pocket squares does not seem to fall: those with works of art, cities and other unique designs. There is much lower demand for pocket squares with simple, repetitive patterns - those have become too boring for many. This makes us quite happy, because it motivates us to be more creative and to offer more interesting models, produced in smaller quantities. We doubt that pocket squares will die out completely!
Let's get to the summary.
It's been a great year and we are very thankful, to all of you, for the trust and support you shown us. We are elated to have such a loyal and encouraging customer base. In 2020, we plan to go further - develop on the Polish and European market, visit new cities (also with our offer), constantly expand the product range (especially RTW, including more casual apparel!) and bring you some interesting news. Daliśmy sobie jeszcze jeden szczególny cel - dbanie o transparentność i mówienie o niej więcej, do czego zmotywowało nas m.in. tegoroczne Black Friday (więcej informacji pod tym linkiem). Mimo ekspansji staramy się pozostawać marką jednocześnie lokalną i globalną oraz dbać o naszą odpowiedzialność, również wobec środowiska. Szykujemy w związku z tym kilka projektów, które ujrzą światło dzienne już w 2020. Trzymajcie kciuki. We gave ourselves another special goal - taking care of transparency and talking about it more, which was motivated especially by this year's Black Friday (check out this article for more information). Despite the expansion, we try to remain both local and global brand, staying responsible and sustainable, also towards the environment. Therefore, we are preparing several projects that will be revealed in 2020. Keep your fingers crossed!
